Exmouth to host SLSGB National Champions in 2016

Adey Mayhew of Surf Life Saving Great Britain has just announced via Twitter that Exmouth will again host Nipper, Youth and Masters National Championships in August 2016.

Exmouth Beach Rescue Club hosted the championships in both 2014 and 2015.  With over a 1000 competitors the event is the highlight of the surf life saving competition calendar bringing teams together from across the UK.

The event is a huge but welcome challenge for us as a volunteer lifesaving club. We are dependent upon our small group of members and the generosity of the local community in helping make the event the huge success it has been in the previous 2 years.

We're proud to be hosting the championships for a 3rd time and can't wait to welcome our friends from around the country back to Exmouth in August.

Devon Champs Ocean Events

Sunday saw 13 members compete at the Devon championships at Putsborough, taking part in board, swim and tube rescue events.

After a hard winters' training the juniors did everyone proud with a 5th place finish, which is a great result for the small number of competitors that went up.

The day saw challenging conditions with 3-4ft messy surf, that increased in size through the day.  Keeping control of a 10ft race board is a special skill in those conditions but it was also a great opportunity to test their competence in solid conditions.

We're looking forward to the beach events as well as the nipper and master events still to come so stay tuned for updated results!

Well done all and thanks to the parents that delivered all competitors and kit to Putsborough for the day! And SLS Devon volunteers for organising a great day.
