Women in Waves #ThisGirlCan

Do you love being by the sea? Fancy getting in and having a splash around? Water baby or slightly apprehensive, do you want to try something different?

ThisGirlCan

This is our first ladies (16+) only sessions and we hope you can join us. We'll be sliding into wetsuits and venturing in to the sea where the session will include getting used to being in the water and trying out some surf lifesaving skills and equipment. We hope that you'll be able to try something new, meet some friendly faces and who knows, maybe you will find a new hobby. The session will be suitable for all levels of fitness and abilities, so long as you can swim 50m (two lengths of a normal 25m pool). After the session if you fancy hanging around for a coffee, tea or hot chocolate to warm up that would be lovely and we may even venture into Exmouth for a celebratory glass of wine.

If you don't have a wetsuit and aren't able to borrow one, but you are keen to come along, let us know. We have a few spares and so will try to get something sorted for you.

We hope to run these sessions monthly throughout the summer, more dates to follow. There will be a £5 charge and this will cover up to 3 sessions.

While we get started, places are limited to 20 ladies. If you plan on coming, please take a couple of minutes to complete this form to help us plan the session: https://goo.gl/forms/qfUvzGgxpv3lSQMm2

Devon Champs Ocean Events

Sunday saw 13 members compete at the Devon championships at Putsborough, taking part in board, swim and tube rescue events.

After a hard winters' training the juniors did everyone proud with a 5th place finish, which is a great result for the small number of competitors that went up.

The day saw challenging conditions with 3-4ft messy surf, that increased in size through the day.  Keeping control of a 10ft race board is a special skill in those conditions but it was also a great opportunity to test their competence in solid conditions.

We're looking forward to the beach events as well as the nipper and master events still to come so stay tuned for updated results!

Well done all and thanks to the parents that delivered all competitors and kit to Putsborough for the day! And SLS Devon volunteers for organising a great day.

Tuesday night's training session was a kracker, with small windswell blown up my Mondays storm it made for a fun training session on race and rescue boards for seniors before taking our junior section body surfing and putting them through their paces with the infamous Groyne Swim, a run swim run event that is a club tradition!

We were also lucky enough to be sent some great photos from a local, Arwyn Rees who luckily had his camera ready to capture the fun!
